JET FM La radio curieuse 91.2 fm Nantes et agglomération nantaise

Depuis 2015 l’Ensemble 0 et sa déclinaison radiophonique 0 for radio est en résidence sur Jet fm chaque premier mercredi du mois pour quelques heures de programmation.
0 [prononcer zéro] est un groupe à géométrie variable né en 2004. Les membres permanents, basés à Bayonne, Altea (Espagne) et à Bruxelles (Belgique), sont : Sylvain Chauveau, Stéphane Garin, Joël Merah.

0 interprète les compositions de ses membres, mais également des pièces d’autres compositeurs. Le groupe fonctionne avec ses trois membres principaux ainsi qu’avec de nombreux collaborateurs et invités, pouvant ainsi accroitre ou réduire son effectif en fonction de chaque projet.

0 s’est produit en concert dans plusieurs pays d’Europe (France, Suisse, Espagne, Belgique, Portugal, Allemagne) et en Asie (Japon). Il a régulièrement été chroniqué dans des magazines et sites tels que The Wire (Royaume-Uni), D-Side (France), Touching Extremes (Italie), The Sound Projector (Royaume-Uni), Vital Weekly (Pays-Bas), Mouvement (France), Jazz e Arredores (Portugal)...

Le collectif (à géométrie variable) s’est aujourd’hui décliné sous différentes formes dont une radio proposant mensuellement une sélection musicale dirigée par Stéphane Garin et Catherine Luro. Radio destinée aux musique(s) et documents sonores.

0 (for radio) #96 _Rutger Zuydervelt

After doing two other instrument-based mixes (a saxophone mix for The Liminal and a drum mix for Headphone Commute), I continued the thread by focussing on another favorite insturment of mine, the double bass. Having just released a second collaboration (’Jangada’) with Portugese/Dutch bass player Gonçalo Almeida, it seems like an obvious choice.

There’s no instrument that can growl like a contra bass. It’s no coincidence that one of the pieces here is called ’Beast’. The animalistic and monolythic power of the bass shines in this piece by James Tenney, as well as on tracks by Christian Weber and Michael Francis Duch. And although it might be less heard, the instrument a gentle side too, as you can hear in the sparse pieces by Mike Majkowski and Scott Worthington.
